Mary Smith dies and, with her, a language.
The tribe female leader Mary Smith Jones, last native of Alaska that spoke the Eyak language, died this week in her bed to the 89 years of age. She had been born in 1918 in Córdova (Alaska) and lived his last years in Anchorage, was last eyak of pure blood and female leader of his declining tribe, to whom she had lead in a legal battle against the great lumber companies that destroyed ancestral forests.
This is my idea for Illustration Friday of this week, a woman who dies, a woman who kept a treasure: a language that today already is LEGEND.
